This advanced workshop is designed for psychologists seeking to deepen their understanding of neurodiversity-affirming assessment practices, with a specific focus on underrecognized presentations of autism across the lifespan. Topics will include camouflaging, gender-diverse and late-identified presentations, and the nuanced interplay between autism and co-occurring experiences such as anxiety, ADHD, or trauma.
What is autism from the perspective of the Neurodiversity paradigm and how do we support autistic individuals?
How does communication, sensory experiences, emotion processing, and attentional style differ in neurodivergent individuals and what can we do to support them?
There is a a growing recognition of the underdiagnosis and misdiagnosis of autism in non-gender-conforming individuals, individuals assigned female at birth, BIPOC, and those with co-occurring conditions such as ADHD, OCD, anxiety, and PDA.
